SEARCH
Southeast Asian Art Resource Channel
A pilot project supported by ArtsNetworkAsia.
SEARCH is an index for resources and documentation on contemporary Southeast Asian art practice and development. It is planned as a long-term, developmental project which can provide an important and useful reference for researchers, artists, curators, collectors and the general public. We hope that it will also develop into an online forum for networking and the exchange of knowledge, and a focus for future events and presentations.
We introduced SEARCH as a pilot project at SH Contemporary in Shanghai in September 2011, as a curated display of the ways in which contemporary Southeast Asian art has been categorised and represented through literature, exhibitions, archival projects, the market, the media and more.
RogueArt, at the invitation of Arthub, worked with individuals and organisations from the region to present a selection of general books and monographs and periodicals, video art screenings, market surveys. A key aim of SEARCH is to introduce important knowledge projects to the regional and international audience.
With thanks to the following for supporting our presentation at SH Contemporary:
SH Contemporary, ArtHub, ruangrupa, Jakarta, Valentine Willie Fine Art Kuala Lumpur,
Reading Room Bangkok, IVAA (Indonesian Visual Arts Archive), Yogyakarta, Sotheby’s Asia
Christie’s Asia, Ahmad Mashadi of NUS Museum, Singapore, Patricia Chen, Simon Soon & Eva McGovern, Steve Tirona.
Apart from the SEARCH website, SEARCH also offers researches access by appointment to the VK Collection and RogueArt collection of books, catalogues and other materials on Southeast Asian art in its Resource Room.
Due to lack of further resources, we have been unable to update the SEARCH website since 2015. We welcome suggestions or enquiries for supporting and developing SEARCH.
