The third book in the Helu-Trans Collectors’ Series documents an exhibition mounted in 2018 of works from the collection of an anonymous collector. For us, it was an opportunity to look at a collection through the eyes of the collector, probing into their process and motivations, and the nature of their engagement with contemporary art in particular.
“The selection of works is only a partial representation of the collection but it expresses some of its key characteristics – an open yet critical view of what “contemporary art” may encompass, a curiosity and hunger for new languages of art, and a relevance to the times we live in. Its sheer range is also a testament to the boundlessness of contemporary art itself, with video, photography, sculpture, painting, and woven and mixed media works touching on matters as diverse as environmental destruction, family love, cultural roots, the human psyche, spiritual calm, the freedom of youth, street and pop aesthetics, the art world, patriotism, beauty, truth and happiness.” (Editor’s note)
